Theft that occurred in Gahanna. On Friday, June 12, 2009, at approximately 8:00pm, a man and woman, under the guise of purchasing lottery tickets, entered the BP gas station located at 407 Granville St. in Gahanna. The woman asked the store clerk if he would exchange a twenty dollar bill for five dollar bills. Once the five dollar bills were received she quickly requested the fives be exchanged for ten dollar bills. By the time the “exchanges” ended, the woman was able to confuse the clerk into giving her 80 extra dollars. The man and woman then left the store and were seen driving away in an older, dark colored Cadillac. The couple then went to a Donatos Pizza store next to the BP, and using the same technique, were able to “quick change” the clerk there for another $20. The suspects have been at this con for quite some time and have managed to bilk businesses out of hundreds of dollars.
